SWIMMING AT ROBIN HOOD

At Robin Hood, Year 5 pupils go swimming once every week for the whole year. Swimming lessons take place at Rothwell Leisure Centre and last 30 minutes. The children are taught by a mixture of the Leisure Centre staff and also Robin Hood Primary School staff (all are qualified swimming teachers).

The National Curriculum requirement for all children leaving Year 6 is to:

  • swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • use a range of strokes effectively
  • perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

Children who have not met the National Curriculum requirement at the end of Year 5 attend intensive top up lessons in Year 6.
