Robin Hood Primary School

"Success is in the journey, not the destination; we are all learners"

Physical Education at Robin Hood

At Robin Hood, Physical Education holds a vital place in our curriculum as well as being a driver of our Personal Development curriculum. We aim to use PE to ensure children are competent in the key fundamental skills which can be applied to a range of sport and physical activity to ensure they are physically literate. Through high-quality overviews and teaching and learning, we recognise the importance of high-quality PE provision and school sport to instill a lifelong love of physical education and physical activity.

It is our intent at Robin Hood Primary School to embed life-long skills that will positively impact our pupils now and into their future. We aim to deliver consistent high-quality teaching and learning opportunities that inspire all children to succeed in physical activities now and beyond. We want to teach our children how to cooperate and collaborate with others, as part of a team, understanding fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values in sport through our Personal Development strand.

Robin Hood’s pupils participate in two high-quality PE lessons each week: one indoor and one outdoor. Our Physical Education lessons incorporate a wide variety of progressive skills and sports to ensure all children develop the confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses. We provide opportunities for all children to engage in extra-curricular activities during and after school, in addition to lunch time activities, in-school competition and competitive sporting events. This is an inclusive approach, which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also well-being for all pupils and families.

Our curriculum improves the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Robin Hood not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. Within our lessons, children are taught personal development and fundamental skills needed to be successful and the importance of taking ownership and responsibility of their own health and fitness. Our impact is therefore to motivate children to utilise these underpinning skills in an independent and effective way in order to live happy and healthy lives through a love of sport.
