Welcome to our wonderful school and website! Robin Hood Primary School is a good School located in the South of Leeds within the Rothwell family of schools. The vast majority of pupils are from within a tight catchment area but some specially funded children do come from further afield. The school caters for children from 3-11 and we are a two form entry school with a nursery offering 15 and 30 hour places. We encourage all of our pupils to have high expectations and believe that, ‘Success is in the Journey, Not the Destination’. We hope you enjoy your visit to our website!
Mrs Sara Harris
A Message from the Chair of Governors
“Dear Parent or Carer,
On behalf of the school Governing Body I would like to thank you and your children for your ongoing support for our staff and Headteacher, who have continued to support children at home through learning on Google Classrooms and in school for the smaller group of children who have continued to attend school throughout lockdown.
The last few months have been immensely challenging for us all and I can honestly say that I am immensely proud of the way that the whole Robin Hood community has responded. Our teachers, senior leadership team and support staff have all been amazing. From ensuring that learning continued as far as possible in these difficult circumstances to keeping everyone’s spirits up with their weekly unique covers of classic songs! I want to add the thanks of the whole governing body to every member of staff.
The children too have been incredible - from the artwork thanking our frontline care workers, NHS staff and refuse collection teams - to their determination to keep learning whilst missing their friends and wider network of family support. On behalf of the school governors please let your little stars know that we appreciate how tough this has been for them too and that we look forward to seeing them back in school as and when it is safe to do so.
Which brings me to the arrangements for some pupils to be able to return to school from Wednesday 3rd June. As Chair of Governors, I have had regular telephone conversations with Mrs Harris throughout lockdown to check on the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff. Our priority has been and remains the safety and wellbeing of all pupils and staff. Following the government announcement that certain year groups could return to school next week we sought advice on how this could safely be done from the Department for Education, local authority (inc Public Health) and unions. We have undertaken a risk assessment to consider all of the practical implications. We have as you know consulted with parents and carers who are key workers and parents and carers of pupils in Reception, Year One and Year Six to understand how many pupils would be likely to return to school and we have carefully considered the space we have in school to maintain safe social distancing and to keep staff and pupils in manageable “bubbles”.
Mrs Harris has already written to you to let you know the arrangements for your children if they are returning to school. The full Governing Body were in support of these arrangements at the remote meeting we held last week.
Given the current need to maintain safe social distancing to stop the spread of the virus it is impossible to see how the remaining year groups can be safely reintegrated into school before the end of the school year as the Prime Minister has suggested. As a school governing body we will continue to seek advice from the DfE, local authority (inc Public Health) and unions as government advice continues to evolve and will only open the school to more pupils if we believe it is safe to do so.
I hope that you and your families have been able to enjoy some rest and relaxation over this last week. We look forward to welcoming some of you back next week and our school teachers and support staff will continue to provide home learning and support for those children who are continuing to learn at home.
WIth best wishes from me and the whole school Governing Body,
Cllr Lisa Mulherin”
