Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at Robin Hood

Children at Robin Hood always make an excellent start to their school journey whether they join us in Nursery or Reception; this is because we ensure that all children receive a very warm welcome, they settle well due to excellent relationships built by staff and there is a very well thought out transition. As we have a qualified SENDCo in our Reception provision, levels of need are identified very quickly and support is put in place where needed at the earliest intervention. Both our classrooms (as well as indoor provision and outdoor provision) have been designed by 'Early Excellence' meaning they are exciting, purposeful and a place where children enjoy spending time enabling them to thrive.

At Robin Hood, we work incredibly hard to ensure that we know and understand each of our children on an individual basis. This enables us to guarantee that they make excellent progress in our Nursery which is then built upon in the Reception year, with the ultimate aim of the children achieving a Good Level of Development (GLD) at the end of their time in EYFS at Robin Hood.

Our EYFS Curriculum

Children learn and develop more from birth to five years old than at any other time in their lives. As a result, our EYFS curriculum is highly ambitious, exciting, inspiring and motivating for all. We have worked alongside Senior Leaders and subject leaders to ensure that our curriculum is the building blocks to Key Stage One and to ensure they are well-prepared to start the National Curriculum. It is incredibly diverse, which is represented in numerous ways through our areas of provision, both indoor and outdoor. Phonics, reading, writing and early mathematics are paramount throughout the week; we also place huge importance on 'Understanding the World', Religious Education, PSHE, Music and PE. This ensures progression in the 7 Areas of Learning: Communication and language, Personal Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. This is taught through a balance of child-led learning and adult-directed tasks as well as whole class, group work or individual learning. All of this provides us with a better understanding of how and why children learn the way they do.
