Welcome to Nursery!
Welcome to Nursery! An emotional but precious year where your child will begin their first experience of school. It is key at Robin Hood that we promote child led, child initiated and adult led learning, to give children a broad and balanced experience. Our stimulating areas of provision will allow your child to learn both independently and collaboratively, encouraging them to question, explain and explore confidently. We aim to help children develop skills to allow them to create and maintain friendships, develop their independence, and extend their language and vocabulary.
Welcome to Reception!
Welcome to Reception! An exciting year where your child will begin their first year of school. A year where your child will gain a true love for learning as they grow into independent, confident learners. Within our curriculum, we aim to promote a love for all areas of learning including Maths, Writing and Reading through our stimulating areas of provision, alongside focused teaching where your child will receive support, stimulation and challenge. At Robin Hood, we encourage children to develop fundamental skills to allow them to maintain and create new friendships, develop their independence and extend their language and vocabulary through questioning and exploration.
Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome to Year 1 - The children will still be learning through play, they will still be exploring, discovering and making use of the areas of provision around the room. The day will be more structured than it was in Reception. The children will be learning in a variety of ways to support them in making the most progress that they can. Your child will be learning through a variety of topics, which makes lessons fun and exciting. This will include History, Geography, Art and DT. In English, the children’s stimulus will be through all sorts of wonderful stories and clips from films. Maths lessons will enjoyable, with plenty of hands-on activities to encourage independent learning. There will be an enhanced focus on Phonics, picking up from where they left off in Reception, which will encourage the children to apply these skills in Reading and Writing.
Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome to Year Two! This is a very important stage of your child’s primary school experience, which includes the end of Key Stage One SATS. To some parents this might seem like an emotional time as your child reaches the end of their time as an infant begins preparations for formal tests. However although we keep in mind the goal for the end of the year this is a wonderful year. In Year Two we begin to work more independently as we work towards reaching the end of KS1. The children begin to flourish as they see themselves as independent learners and enjoy exploring through practical experiences and written ideas.
Welcome to Year 3!
Welcome to Year Three! This year is an important one for your child as they make the transition from Key Stage One to Key Stage Two. Your child will cement their learning from Year Two and begin build upon these foundations as they embark on a journey of creativity, independence and the fresh challenges of their next phase of schooling. Despite the introduction of challenging material and concepts, we are still maintaining elements of fun and a diverse learning environment, giving the children the opportunity to apply their growing knowledge. In Year Three we promote a love of learning in a range of challenging and engaging topics. We believe that every child is on their own learning journey and each one of them will have their own achievements of which to be proud. The children will flourish as individuals, taking on ownership of their own learning and becoming equipped with the necessary skills to become resilient and successful learners.
Welcome to Year 4!
Hello and welcome to Year 4.
In this important year, children continue to grow in their confidence, knowledge and skills in lower Key Stage 2. Year 4 provides pupils with a wide range of learning opportunities both individually and in small teams. Pupils begin to express themselves in more detail through their written work and become more fluent in subjects such as maths and reading. Throughout Year 4, progress is celebrated together, enabling pupils to become confident and resilient learners as they move into Upper Key Stage 2.
Welcome to Year 5!
Year 5 is an important year for progress and independence in our children; a year to embed all of the knowledge learnt in Lower Key Stage 2; a year to start the preparations for transition to secondary school. This is often a year when children grow in maturity — sometimes even more so than in their final year in primary. They will gain greater independence and confidence from being given more responsibility with their learning. Children in Year 5 are increasingly encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning: to do their homework, to pack their school bag, to remember their planners and equipment. As a result, they develop and grow. It is about encouraging independence in preparation for bigger things to come.
Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome to Year 6: an exciting and very important stage in your child’s primary school experience. In Year 6, we consolidate and build upon their learning through primary school, through a variety of independent and group outcomes. Although we work towards their end of Key Stage Two SATs, ensuring each and every child has the opportunity to achieve the very best they can, we also ensure a wide and varied curriculum which allows the children to learn new skills ready for their exciting endeavours at secondary school.
